At Mazur & Co. we wear our values on our sleeves, and I love that about us. It makes us better strategists and communicators, and it helps us stay grounded in moments like these when many of the people, institutions, and issues we care about are at risk.
Those values include qualities that are visible to clients every day – like a relentless attention to detail, excellent customer service, and collaboration. But they also include our aspirations for how we show up in the world: as a team that works to make a positive difference in our community and embraces diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and talents.
I don’t agree with Ross Douthat on much, but his column is making the rounds and it’s got us thinking about what we do in moments of technological and political disruption. He makes an appeal for any life-affirming activity you can do in the real world: fight for a cause, write the book, fall in love. It’s a call to grab life by the you-know-what, and I’m here for it.
This hasn’t been written into our values (yet), but what’s struck me since joining Mazur & Co. is our human-centeredness. We’re doers, fixers, and connectors who embrace technology and innovation, but if we have to pick between machines and humans – we’ll pick humans every time, flaws and all.
As our team grows and evolves, we’ll be periodically revisiting and refining our values. And we’re continually talking about how we can put our values into action more effectively in how we operate and the work we do. How is your organization thinking about its values in this moment? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop us a line…
