THE RHYTHM OF LEADERSHIP
What does jumping a back fence to audition for an opportunity to open for Jefferson Airplane have to do with leading a major American city?
More than you might think.
I recently had the privilege of spending one-on-one time in conversation with former Kansas City Mayor Sly James, cofounder of Wickham James Strategies & Solutions, a valued strategic partner to Mazur & Co. I’m deeply grateful for his candor and generosity in sharing the stories that shaped him, from a musically driven and self-reliant student to a transformational civic leader.
Our time together was a masterclass in authenticity, resilience, and the “pretzel logic” of leadership.
Talking with Sly was especially meaningful during Black History Month. The hard work of Black people throughout time has had local, regional, national, and global impacts that continue to improve the world around us positively. Sly’s journey is a powerful reminder of that enduring impact.
I invite you to read the full conversation, “The Rhythm of Leadership: A Conversation with Sly James.”
Mission Meetup
We love our clients — and we especially love spending meaningful time with their teams. Last week in Kansas City, part of the Mazur & Co. team facilitated a Strategic Communications session at The DeBruce Foundation’s Mission Meetup.
Together, we connected everyday communications to organizational goals and engaged in hands-on messaging practice, helping Foundation team members more confidently share how their work expands career pathways.
