Happy Juneteenth!
I’m happy to commemorate the enduring struggle for Black freedom in America. As efforts to deliberately diminish and erase Black history continue in some corners of our society—from museums to media—it’s more important than ever to acknowledge and honor the full truth of our shared past. I encourage everyone not to ignore history, but to embrace its legitimacy and let it fuel our meaningful work and optimism for the future.
If you are not working on Juneteenth or have free time this weekend, be intentional and carve out some time to observe the holiday. There are many great things to do in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Washington, DC, to celebrate Juneteenth! If you are outside of those areas, I’m sure there are events happening locally near you – don’t be afraid to ask around.
I hope you all enjoy the week and are having a phenomenal summer!
