“Hold on loosely. But don’t let go. If you cling too tightly, you’re gonna lose control.” — 38 Special

That lyric has been on repeat in my head lately.

Weeks ago, my family planned a holiday weekend in New York City built around a Broadway show we were excited about. Almost immediately, plans began to change. We adjusted travel to make sure we didn’t miss an important middle school band concert. Then the show we were planning to see was cancelled. Disappointing…but manageable. We reworked the itinerary and went anyway.

At the end of the weekend, our flight home was cancelled too.

But what we found was that as the plans fell apart, new options appeared.

We explored places we hadn’t expected to, lingered longer, and said yes to experiences we might have otherwise skipped. The Christmas in NY family weekend still ended up as a “mission accomplished,” but fairly different from what we originally envisioned.

As I reflect on our first year as Mazur & Co., that experience feels like a fitting metaphor.

This year didn’t unfold exactly as planned. Some initiatives shifted. A few opportunities didn’t materialize on the timeline we expected. There were moments that required recalibration, patience, and real-time problem-solving. But those same moments created space for other opportunities to emerge:  new partnerships, deeper relationships, and sharper focus.

What mattered most was staying open to possibility.

That openness shaped how we clarified our work and how we show up for clients. Over the course of the year, we refined our service lines around what organizations most need when complexity is high and conditions are changing: Strategic Communications, Operational Excellence, and Public Affairs

We developed a clearer articulation of what we do. We help clients communicate, operate, and advocate – with precision and purpose.  This simply names the work we were already doing at our best.

It also shaped how we built capacity. This year, we welcomed new team members and strategic partners whose expertise strengthens our ability to support clients navigating policy comms, leadership transitions, organizational change, and more, expanding our reach into Washington, DC, and Florida, deepening our dream team bench with trusted collaborators across the country.

That mattered for the missions we support.

Across our client partnerships this year, we worked alongside organizations advancing economic opportunity, educational access, women’s leadership, justice, technology, environmental stewardship, and community vitality. In many cases, that work required adapting strategy midstream, responding to shifting political landscapes, evolving community needs, or changing timelines, while staying anchored to purpose.

Whether supporting organizations in moments of transition or momentum, our role stayed consistent: to help partners stay focused on their mission, communicate with clarity, and move forward…even when the plan changes.

As we close our first year as Mazur & Co., I’m proud of how we showed up and led. Not because everything always went according to plan for us, or our clients, but because when plans shifted, we held on loosely, staying curious and adaptable, and never let go of being grounded in what matters most – helping our clients advance their missions.

Our clients and our team rocked 2025, and I can’t wait to see what we do together in 2026.

Happy Holidays,
